Visiting the club

First-timers start here — everything about getting in, getting set up and getting playing.

Club entrance and host desk
What do I need to bring?

Photo ID — the club is strictly 18+ and we check everyone at the door. Everything else is provided: balls, cards, lockers and free tea and coffee beside the host desk.

Where exactly are you?

Level 1 of Market City, 9-13 Hay Street, Haymarket — above the markets, a five-minute walk from Central Station. See the contacts page for the map.

When are you open?

Every day 10:00–02:00, public holidays 12:00–00:00. Last entry is 1:15am, and the lounge kitchen closes at 1:30am.

Is there a dress code?

Smart casual throughout; no thongs on the lounge floor after 8pm. Tournament finals occasionally run themed dress codes — always optional.

Can I watch without playing?

Of course — spectators are welcome everywhere, and the arena gallery is free during tournament nights. Grab a drink and watch a final; it's genuinely good theatre.

Is the venue accessible?

Yes — lift access to all floors, accessible amenities on level 1, and hosts are happy to set up machines for seated play. Call ahead and we'll have it ready.

Machines & gameplay

How the game works, what the machines do, and how to actually get better at it.

Pachinko machine mechanics close up
How does pachinko actually work?

You launch small steel balls into a vertical field of pins. Balls that reach the centre pocket trigger spins on the machine — hit the right combination and the machine pays out more balls, which you trade for prizes. Our mechanics guide goes deeper.

Which machines are best for beginners?

Start on the smart import row — cinematic, forgiving and easy to read. Vintage hanemono is pure skill and will humble you fast. A host can match you to the right row; the masterclass covers this properly.

Is it luck or skill?

Both, in different proportions per machine — from roughly 30% luck on vintage units to 70% on the newest imports. Ball launch pressure, machine selection and payout timing all genuinely matter. Our strategy piece breaks it down.

Can machines be rigged?

Every machine's payout configuration is logged, sealed and audited monthly by an independent technician — the same standard used in Japanese parlours. Tournament machines are calibrated identically.

What if a machine malfunctions mid-play?

Flag a host — ball counts are tracked on your card, so nothing is lost. The machine gets serviced within the hour and you move to a neighbouring unit with your full balance.

Is this gambling?

No cash gambling happens here. You rent balls for play, win balls as prizes, and redeem balls for merchandise and gift cards — the same amusement model Japanese parlours have used for decades.

Group 03

Prizes & redemption

What your winnings are worth and how the wall works.

Prize redemption wall
What can I win?

The redemption wall stocks 400+ lines — electronics, figures and collectibles, Japanese snacks and whisky, homewares and gift cards. Members see a separate catalogue with ~10% better rates.

How do I redeem my balls?

Take your ball card to the third-floor counter — staff count your balance and you shop the wall. There's an express lane for members, and the wall restocks every Friday. Full walkthrough in our redemption guide.

Do my balls expire?

Your balance lives on your ball card for 12 months — leave with winnings today, redeem them next month. After 12 months unused balances lapse.

Can I redeem for cash?

No — balls are redeemed for merchandise and gift cards only, which keeps the club an amusement venue rather than a gambling one. That's the law, not just house policy.

Can I buy gifts with balls?

Your balance can pay for anything on the wall including gift cards — a popular way to turn a good night into a birthday present.

Bookings, membership & events

Reserving, cancelling, joining and competing.

Membership card and booking desk
Do I need to book ahead?

Only for private hire, corporate packages, machine rental and lounge booths. Sessions, masterclasses and tournaments are walk-in friendly.

How do I cancel or move a booking?

Free changes up to 24 hours before your slot; prepaid amounts refund fully with 48+ hours notice, or convert to credit inside that window. See the refund policy.

Is membership worth it?

If you play more than about four hours a month, yes — the 20% saving covers the fee, then reservations, league entry and the members' catalogue are pure upside. Compare tiers on the membership page.

How do tournaments work?

Thursday ladder league runs all season with handicapped brackets; the Saturday Showdown is a one-night A$35-entry event. Both are explained on the events page and the league page.

Can I rent a machine for home?

Yes — serviced units delivered and collected from A$390 a week including balls and tokens. Details on the rental page.

Do you do corporate invoicing?

Yes — GST invoices for all group and corporate bookings, with 14-day terms for account clients. Talk to the events team via contacts.

Fresh from the host desk

Asked this week

Three real questions from the last seven days — if you're wondering it, someone else already did.

"Can I bring my own lucky balls?"

Sentimental, but no — all balls must come from our counter so counts stay fair. Your lucky charm is welcome at the machine though.

"Do you sell the machines?"

Occasionally — retired units go to members first via the club board. Or skip ownership and rent one for your place.

"Is there food for kids?"

Wrong venue — we're strictly 18+. But the izakaya kitchen does excellent late-night plates for the adults.
